Turkish stock exchange down at close

Benchmark BIST 100 index down 159 points at Wednesday's close

ISTANBUL (AA) - The Turkish benchmark stock index closed the midweek at 8,910.23 points, down 1.75% from the previous close.

The BIST 100 index started the day at 9,091.85 points and ended it down 158.8 points from Tuesday's close.

The lowest value of the index for the day was 8,910.23, while its daily high was 9,091.85.

Some 11 indexes rose in value, while 87 were down.

The total transaction volume reached 91 billion Turkish liras ($2.84 billion), while the overall value of the index was 7.58 trillion liras ($237.2billion).

The USD/TRY exchange rate was 32.0950 as of 7.10 pm local time (1610GMT), the EUR/TRY rate stood at 35.1690, and the GBP/TRY traded at 41.0615.

The price of one ounce of gold was $2,170.82, while the barrel price of Brent oil was around $83.90.
