Turkish stock exchange down at midweek close

Benchmark BIST 100 index loses 146.41 points in Wednesday's closing session

ISTANBUL (AA) - Türkiye’s benchmark stock index BIST 100 closed Wednesday at 9,078.43 points, down 1.59% or 146.41 points from the previous close.

The index opened the day at 9,225.29, inching up 0.45 points from Tuesday’s close.

During the session, the index ranged between a low of 9,058.16 and a high of 9,225.29.

Out of all tracked indices, 80 declined, while 20 posted gains.

The daily transaction volume totaled 93.6 billion Turkish liras (approximately $2.43 billion), with the total market capitalization of the BIST 100 reaching 8.3 trillion liras ($216.3 billion).

The USD/TRY exchange rate was 38.4860 as of 6.40 pm local time (1540GMT), the euro/lira exchange rate stood at 43.7910, and the British pound traded at 51.3395.

The price of an ounce of gold was $3,307.80, while the barrel price of Brent oil was $62.60.
