Turkish stock exchange up at midweek opening

ISTANBUL (AA) - The Turkish benchmark stock index opened Wednesday at 9,984.67 points, increasing 0.88% or 86.66 points from the previous close.

On Tuesday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index dropped 0.13% to close the day at 9,898.01 points with a transaction volume of 101 billion Turkish liras ($2.77 billion).

The US dollar/Turkish lira (USD/TRY) exchange rate was 36.4440 as of 10.05 am (0705GMT), the EUR/TRY rate stood at 38.8070, and the GBP/TRY rate was 46.6765.

The price of one ounce of gold was $2,918.05, and the barrel price of Brent oil was around $70.95.
