Türkiye's BIST 100 index rises 1.36% on midweek close

Benchmark index gains more than 140 points at Wednesday close

ISTANBUL (AA) - The Turkish benchmark stock index closed Wednesday at 10,580.26 points, up 1.36%, or 141.93 points from the previous close.

The BIST 100 index started the day at 10,492.43, gaining 54.1 points from the close on Tuesday.

The lowest point for the index was 10,470.61, while the daily high was 10,620.88.

During the day, 40 indexes lost in value while 59 closed with gains.

The daily transaction volume reached 146.2 billion Turkish liras ($3.99 billion), while the overall value of the index was 9.38 trillion liras ($257.1 billion).

The USD/TRY exchange rate was 36.5980 as of 6.30 p.m. local time (1530GMT), the euro/lira exchange rate stood at 39.9910, and the British pound traded at 47.4340.

The price of an ounce of gold was $2,924.70, while the barrel price of Brent oil was $70.45.
