Türkiye's retail sales rise 3.7% in August

Figure returns to growth in August after stagnating on monthly basis in July

ANKARA (AA) - Türkiye's retail sales increased 3.7% month-on-month in August, according to data released by TurkStat on Wednesday.

The figure returned to a growth in August after stagnating on a monthly basis in July and contracting in June by 0.5%.

Food, drinks, and tobacco sales increased 3.1% from a month ago in August, while non-food sales – excluding automotive fuel – were up 3.8%.

Automotive fuel sales jumped 4.1% during the same period.

Among non-food items, electronic goods and furniture posted the largest rise of 7.8% from July.

On an annual basis, retail sales volume soared 9% compared to August 2021. It followed a 2.3% annual hike in July.

Sales of food, drinks, and tobacco were up 11.5% year-on-year, non-food sales – except automotive fuel – surged 12.8% and automotive fuel sales increased 4.3%.
