ISTANBUL (AA) – The UK retail sales volume was back to growth in June with a rise of 0.9%, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said on Friday.
The rise was below market estimates of a 1.2% rise and followed a downwardly revised 2.8% fall in the previous month.
"Food store sales rose following a fall in May 2025, with retailers reporting the warm weather had a positive effect," the ONS said in a statement.
Food store sales climbed 0.7% in June, following a 5.4% fall in May.
The rise was mainly due to high sales volumes in supermarkets, with some retailer comments mentioning increased sales of drinks due to the warm weather, according to the office
Non-food store sales volumes (the total of department, clothing, household, and other non-food stores) rose 0.2% in the month, owing primarily to promotions and good weather.
Automotive fuel sales also gained 2.8% in June, the largest monthly increase since May 2024, with retailers also mentioning the impact of good weather.
On an annual basis, retail sales volumes also rose 1.7% in June, below estimates of a 1.8% rise.
