Ukrainian premier urges for more aid in meeting with EU ambassadors

Denys Shmyhal calls for release of frozen Russian assets to fund Ukraine's recovery

ISTANBUL (AA) – Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal on Friday met EU ambassadors to discuss coordinated responses against Russia, appealing for increased military, financial and humanitarian assistance.

“In the face of massive Russian aggression, there is an urgent need to increase support,” Shmyhal said in a statement on X.

He also raised the issue of sanctions and the seizure of frozen Russian assets to help fund Ukraine’s recovery and defense efforts.

Shmyhal emphasized the government’s wartime priorities, including economic stability, reconstruction, bolstering the defense industry, and advancing Ukraine’s EU integration process.

“We look forward to the earliest possible start of negotiations on clusters,” he said, referring to specific areas of EU law Kyiv must align with for accession talks.

“I thank the EU and all member states for their unwavering solidarity with Ukraine,” he added.
