US durable goods orders in June see largest fall since April 2020

New orders down 9.3% from last month, led by declines in orders of transportation equipment, nondefense aircraft and parts

ISTANBUL (AA) - US new durable goods orders dropped 9.3% in June compared to the previous month, marking the largest decline in more than five years, according to data released Friday by the Census Bureau.

New orders for manufactured durable goods, which measure the change in the value of new purchase orders placed with manufacturers, fell $32.1 billion to $311.8 billion.

The figure reversed an upwardly revised 16.5% rise in May, and was below the forecast of a 10.4% fall for June.

Transportation equipment led the decline in June, falling 22.4%, and nondefense aircraft and parts (-51.8%).

Orders also fell significantly for capital goods (-22.2%) and nondefense capital goods (-22%).

Excluding defense orders, new orders decreased 9.4% month-on-month in June

On the other hand, excluding transportation, new orders increased 0.2% on a monthly basis.
