US initial jobless claims rise 13,000
242,000 claims filed last week, according to Labor Department data

ISTANBUL (AA) – The number of Americans filing first-time unemployment claims rose by 13,000 last week to 242,000, according to Labor Department data released on Thursday.
The figure came in little higher than market estimates of 240,000, while the previous week's figure was revised down by 1,000 from 230,000 to 229,000.
The four-week moving average was 239,250, which was an increase of 3,500 from the previous week's revised average.
The US economy added 236,000 jobs in March, while the unemployment rate fell to 3.5% from 3.6%.
Job additions and unemployment rate for April will be announced Friday at 8.30 a.m. EDT (1230GMT).
