US stock market closes Monday mixed, Nasdaq falls

ISTANBUL (AA) - US stock market closed mixed on Monday.

The Dow Jones jumped 327 points, or 0.98%, to close the day at 33,601. The S&P 500 rose 15 points, or 0.37% to finish the session at 4,124.

The Nasdaq, on the other hand, decreased 32 points, or 0.27%, to end the day at 12,189.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, shed 0.6% to 19.58, and the 10-year US Treasury yield lost 1.9% to at 3.423%.

The dollar index fell 0.5% to 102.03, while the euro rose 0.6% to $1.0908 against the greenback.

Precious metals were mixed, with gold adding 0.8% to $1,985 per ounce, but silver trimming 0.4% to $24.01.

Crude oil prices soared more than 6%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $84.95 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $80.48.
