US stock market opens higher

NEW YORK (AA) - The U.S. stock market opened with gains on Tuesday to begin the last trading day of October on a higher note.

The Dow Jones added 25 points to begin trading at 23,374 points, and the S&P 500 rose almost 3 points to start the day at 2,575 points.

The Nasdaq increased 16 points to open at 6,715 points.

Much of the gains in the Dow Jones were attributed to Apple, which saw its stock price increase by 1.2 percent shortly after the opening bell.

Apple will release its newest smartphone, the iPhone X, in the U.S. on Friday.

The California-based company's shares may continue to climb if consumer demand is high, experts say.
