US stock market opens lower
Dow falls almost 100 points

NEW YORK (AA) - The three major indices in the U.S. stock market opened Tuesday on a lower note.
The Dow Jones fell 99 points to begin the first trading day of the week at 21,887 points.
The S&P 500 lost 9 points to open at 2,467 points, while the Nasdaq decreased 27 points to start the day at 6,407 points.
The stock market was closed on Monday in observance of the U.S. Labor Day holiday.
