US stock market opens mixed

Industrial production marks first increase in three months, while manufacturing production comes below market expectations

NEW YORK (AA) - The U.S. stock market opened mixed Tuesday after the release of macroeconomic data.

The Dow Jones increased 11 points to begin trading at 22,968 points -- a new record high level.

The S&P 500 lost less than 1 point to start the day flat at 2,557 points.

The Nasdaq decreased 2 points to open at 6,621 points.

The U.S. industrial production in September came in line with market expectations, rising 0.3 percent from the month before, and marking its first monthly increase in the past three months, according to a report by the U.S. Federal Reserve earlier in the day.

Manufacturing production, however, rose only 0.1 percent in September, compared to the previous month, and came below the market expectation of a 0.2 percent increase.
