US stocks close mixed

ISTANBUL (AA) - Major exchanges in the US stock market closed mixed Tuesday.

The Dow Jones rose 98 points, or 0.29%, to finish the day at 33,684. The S&P 500 added less than one point to close flat at 4,108.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq, on the other hand, fell 52 points, or 0.43%, to 12,031.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, rose 0.7% to 19.10. Meanwhile, the 10-year US Treasury yield rose 0.4% to 3.428%.

The dollar index was unchanged at 102.14, while the euro gained 0.5% to $1.0913 against the greenback.

Precious metals were in positive territory, with gold rising 0.6% to $2,004 per ounce and silver adding 0.8% to $25.06.

Oil prices increased around 1.7%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $85.44 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude at $81.34.
