US stocks close mixed as Dow gains, Nasdaq dives

ISTANBUL (AA) - It was a mixed close for US stock Wednesday with the Dow Jones ending in positive territory but the Nasdaq shaving points.

The blue-chip Dow added 91 points, or 0.27%, to finish the session at 33,665.

The S&P 500, on the other hand, fell 16 points, or 0.38%, to end the day at 4,267.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq was off 171 points, or 1.29%, to close at 13,104.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, fell 0.3% to 13.92. The 10-year US Treasury yield, meanwhile, rose 2.7% to 3.795%.

The dollar index added 0.05% to 104.18, and the euro added the same to reach $1.0699 against the greenback.

Precious metals were in red, with gold losing 1.1% to $1,942 per ounce and silver trimming 0.6% to $23.45.

Oil prices were up around 1%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $76.94 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $72.58.
