US stocks higher at opening bell

VIX volatility index falls 3.5% to 16.34

ISTANBUL (AA) - US stocks opened higher Tuesday.

The Dow was up 160 points, or 0.42%, to 38,400 at 10.19 a.m. EDT. The S&P 500 rose 40 points, or 0.8%, to 5,051.

The Nasdaq increased 173 points, or 1.12%, to 15,624.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, fell 3.5% to 16.34. The 10-year US Treasury yield lost 1.1% to 4.571%.

The US dollar index declined 0.34% to 105.72, while the euro rose 0.52% to $1.0709 against the greenback.

Precious metals were mixed, with gold losing 0.12% to $2,324 per ounce, but silver increasing 0.4% to $27.29.

Oil prices rose around 0.2% with global benchmark Brent crude at $87.12 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $82.07.
