US stocks mixed Friday after record highs

ISTANBUL (AA) - US stocks opened mixed on Friday after two exchanges reached their highest levels this year during the previous session.

The S&P 500 rose only four points, or 0.1%, to remain mostly flat at 4,429 at 9.59 a.m. EDT after the index reached as high as 4,439.20 on Thursday.

The Nasdaq, on the other hand, was down seven points, or 0.05%, to 13,776.

The tech-heavy index climbed as much as 13,828.17 points in previous session.

Both exchanges on Thursday posted their highest intraday levels since April 2022.

After Friday's opening, the blue-chip Dow Jones increased 65 points, or 0.2%, to 34,473.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, fell 1.4% to 14.31.

The 10-year US Treasury yield, meanwhile, rose 0.9% to 3.718%.

The dollar index added 0.04% to 102.16, and the euro rose 0.15% to $1.0961 against the greenback.

Precious metals were also on the rise, with gold adding 0.3% to $1,964 per ounce and silver rising 1.2% to $24.18.

Oil prices were up around 0.2%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $75.81 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $70.81.
