US stocks open lower, continue losses for straight 2nd day
Precious metals in negative territory; oil down around 1%

ISTANBUL (AA) - US stocks opened lower Tuesday after ending the previous session in red and starting the new week on a soft note.
The Dow Jones lost 51 points, or 0.15%, to 33,511 at 10 a.m. EDT. The blue-chip index fell almost 200 points, or 0.59%, on Monday.
The S&P 500 declined four points, or 0.1%, to 4,269 after trimming 0.2% the previous day.
The Nasdaq was off 29 points, or 0.22%, to 13,200. The tech-heavy index recorded a 0.09% loss Monday.
The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, dove 2% to 14.44. The 10-year US Treasury yield, meanwhile, rose 1% to 3.729%.
The dollar index rose 0.33% to 104.34, while the euro fell 0.4% to $1.0672 against the greenback.
Precious metals were in negative territory, with gold losing 0.2% to $1,958 per ounce and silver trimming 0.66% to $23.42.
Oil prices were down around 1%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $75.92 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $71.39.
