US stocks open lower mid-week

All indices post negative signals at opening session

ISTANBUL (AA) - Major indices on the New York Stock Exchange opened in the red on Wednesday.

The Dow was down by 0.28% to 33,087.07 points at 9.30 a.m. EDT (1330GMT). The S&P 500 dropped 0.33% to 4,147.12 points.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq decreased 0.23% to 12,147.28 points.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, was up 1.71% to 24.43 as of 10.19 a.m.

The dollar index dropped slightly -- 0.02% -- to 102.3 and the 10-year US Treasury bond yield gained 1.61% to reach 3.081.

Gold was up 0.34% to $1,858.40 per ounce, while silver dropped 0.23% to $22.13.

Global oil benchmark Brent crude was trading at $121.16, up 0.49%, while US benchmark West Texas Intermediate (WTI) was at $119.53 -- a 0.1% increase.
