US stocks open Tuesday lower

ISTANBUL (AA) - US stocks opened lower Tuesday.

The Dow fell 20 points, or 0.06%, to 33,578 at 9.41 a.m. EDT. The S&P 500 lost three points, or 0.08% to 4,120.

The Nasdaq decreased 22 points, or 0.18%, to 12,166.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, rose 2.1% to 18.94, and the 10-year US Treasury yield added 1.1% to at 3.470%.

The dollar index fell 0.05% to 102.05, while the euro rose 0.04% to $1.0902 against the greenback.

Precious metals were in positive territory, with gold adding 0.3% to $1,991 per ounce and silver rising 0.5% to $24.11.

Oil prices increased around 1%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $85.60 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $81.25.
