TJ Sabula says he was 'targeted for political retribution' for 'embarrassing' president

ISTANBUL (AA) - A Ford autoworker suspended for shouting "pedophile protector" at Donald Trump said he has no "regrets" for "embarrassing" the US president, The Washington Post reported on Wednesday.

"As far as calling him out, definitely no regrets whatsoever," TJ Sabula told the newspaper.

The autoworker admitted he is worried about his livelihood but remains convinced that his suspension was "targeted for political retribution" intended to punish him for causing the president public embarrassment.

Sabula, a political independent, said that while he has supported Republican candidates in the past, he has never cast a vote for Trump.

The heated exchange took place on Tuesday at the Ford River Rouge Plant in Dearborn, Michigan.

Footage shows Trump reacting to the heckling by mouthing a profanity and gesturing toward Sabula before walking away.

White House communications director Steven Cheung defended the president's behavior, asserting that "a lunatic was wildly screaming expletives in a complete fit of rage, and the President gave an appropriate and unambiguous response."
